In Flagrante
-Plecia nearctica (southern love bug)

For them, making love
seems a logical
state: "in flagrante"
they drift on the wind.
From whence do they come,
ecstatic, conjoined,
approaching our midst
in a swoon?   Do they
pair for a summer's
sun frenzy, then veer--
tumescent, in flight
from the woods? We watch:
such dervish couplings
we eye unalarmed--
insect reflections,
mimers of us all.
